Marissa is a home-grown Alaskan girl from Anchorage and started dancing at the Alaska Moving Arts Center when she was four years old. Marissa studied Modern Dance for 10 years before taking a job at AMAC as their resident Modern Dance teacher when she was 16 years old, while dancing in Amy Lindsey’s Performance Company. In addition to dancing with East Anchorage High School’s Dance Contempo, Marissa taught Modern Dance and studied Ballet, Jazz, and Pointe at AMAC. Throughout high school, she choreographed for Dance Contempo; and worked with choreographers and dancers in the Anchorage area, performing alongside Momentum Dance Collective and Dance Contempo alumni. Marissa has choreographed five musicals, including AFAA productions Legally Blonde Jr and Guys and Dolls Jr. and North Area Drama production Bye Bye Birdie. Marissa attends University of Alaska Anchorage as a Psychology major and a Dance minor, and dances in UAA’s resident dance company, Dance Ensemble. She plans to get her Master’s degree, become a high school teacher, and continue her involvement in the Anchorage dance community.
